Meet Josie Gonzales
Josie Gonzales serves as the San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk. Elected in a special election in November 2024 to complete the term of the late Bob Dutton, she was sworn into office in January 2025 and immediately began advancing efforts to modernize the department and improve public service.
A lifelong resident of San Bernardino County, Josie represented the Fifth District on the Board of Supervisors from 2004 to 2020. During her tenure, she led the county’s nationally recognized initiative to end veteran homelessness and was a vocal champion for affordable housing, early childhood development, and public health programs.
As Assessor, Josie is a steadfast protector of Prop 13 and works to ensure homeowners receive fair and timely relief under Prop 8 when market values decline. She has expanded community outreach—especially to seniors, veterans, and new homeowners—making it easier for residents to understand property tax laws and access available exemptions.
The first Latina elected to both the Fontana City Council and the Board of Supervisors, Josie draws on her experience as a small business owner to bring a practical, results-driven perspective to local government. Her leadership combines common sense with compassion and an unwavering commitment to taxpayer fairness.
She lives in Fontana and continues to serve with integrity, ensuring San Bernardino County residents receive accurate, efficient, and responsive service.
